Things to See and Do

Nanaimo may be called the Harbour City but it could just as well be called the City of Parks. Listed below are just a few of the over 200 parks in Nanaimo.

Newcastle Island Provincial Marine Park

This jewel of Nanaimo is a legendary rock and is a magical island of beauty and history. Its rugged landscape is steeped in history and heritage with plenty of stories and legends to tell. Here you can uncover a historic piece of costal lanscape that has captured the imagination of generations.

Swy-a-lana Lagoon Park

This saltwater lagoon utilizes the ebb and flow of the tides to create a habitat for marine life. An arched pedestrian bridge leads from the lagoon to Maffeo Sutton Park, the site of many harbourside festivals, a great place to catch a Harbour Ferry and just one more place for that perfect picture

Pipers Lagoon Park

This 8 hectare park is built on an isthmus that extends out to a rocky headland and features twisting trails that lead to a number of seaside lookouts. Its a bird watcher’s paradise.

Bowen Park

One of Nanaimo’s largest parks that includes a seasonal petting zoo. Bowen Park’s enchanted forest trails meander along the Millstone River and waterfalls, weaving through giant stands of trees and around colourful rhododendron groves.
